Five of the hottest dancehall stars this year are up to grab a MOBO Award this year.
Popcaan, Konshens, Damian Marley, Sean Paul, and Mr. Vegas were all nominated in the Best Reggae Act category for the upcoming Music of Black Origin Awards ceremony slated for November 3.
All five artists are enjoying a very good year. Popcaan has been visible on the UK charts since last year with hits such as “Ravin,” “Only Man She Want,” and “Clean.”
Sean Paul released his fifth studio album Tomahawk Technique in Europe this year. His singles “She Doesn’t Mind,” and “Got 2 Luv U” featuring Alexis Jordan hit the charts in several markets in Europe.
Mr. Vegas catchy single “Bruck It Down” topped the BBC 1Xtra Dancehall chart for several weeks. Damian Marley is one of dancehall’s most consistent artists over the last few years and his most recent single “Affairs Of The Heart” is a favourite reggae song on several UK music radio stations.
This year is arguably a Konshens year in dancehall. The “Realest Song” deejay scores several hits this year including “Gal A Bubble” and “Stop Sign.” Konshens is currently experiencing heavy airplay and high demand for tour.
Italian reggae star Alborosie won the award last year.
