Red Bull Culture Clash is finally making its way to Jamaica for the first time, and dancehall deejay Govana and singer Jada Kingdom have officially hopped on the train.
The 2019 Culture Clash, which will take place at the National Arena in Kingston on November 2, is set to be a show stopper with a live musical showcase. Govana and Jada Kingdom’s crew, Strike Force, is the first of the four teams to be named and will be supported by Chromatic sound system.
How does Red Bull Culture Clash work?
Four crews will face each other with genres ranging from dancehall to hip-hop, reggae and soca, spitting diss records and counteractions along with specially made dubplates and other gimmicks. The aim of the clash is to win over and get the crowd going as success is measured by the crowd reaction using a decibel meter.
Jamaica has successfully won the clash internationally in 2016 when Popcaan and Unruly won the battle in London, then again in 2017 in Atlanta.
Red Bull Culture Clash is dubbed one of the world’s biggest musical battle and is based on the Jamaican sound clashes, which emerged in the 1950s. The first Red Bull Culture Clash was held in 2010 in London, and from there it has grown bigger and better with each staging.
