Chris Brown Break Down At BET Awards: The Beginning Of An Emotional Comeback

There is much to be said about Chris Brown latest stint at the BET awards last Sunday night. The R&B singer performed an electrifying but emotional tribute to the late king of pop Michael Jackson. Chris Brown reminded the world of the tremendous amount of talent he possesses.

But the young R&B star broke down in tears and could hardly perform the Michael Jackson 1989 hit “Man In The Middle.” For a moment everyone thought it was a joke, but then realized he was sobering and could not sing the words to the song. Then the critics came out full swing, with some went as far as to say Chris Brown career is over.

But his critics failed to see two key elements of his performance and the charisma he displayed on stage. The tribute was electrifying and on point. For a while we forget what a great performer he is. The beat down of Rihanna, declining album sales and his refusal to enter Europe for his tour all created a cloud over his talent. But his performance at the 10th annual BET awards was nothing short of excellence; Michael Jackson was looking down smiling. His critics also failed to see that his emotional break down was genuine and sincere, and not fabricated as they claim.

Good sense though prevailed as stars begins to come out in support of Brown, from Diddy to Trey Songz and Jermaine Jackson, all through in a word of support for Brown.

Trey Songz quoted as saying about Chris performance, “Chris killed that. He left his heart on the stage. He gave genuine emotion. I was proud of him and I was happy for him for having that moment.” Songz didn’t mention Brown choking on the lyrics during the song: “He did that justice. Everybody’s been waiting for that.”

“He’s a human being like all others, we all make mistakes. What he did was wrong. I love Rihanna… I’m one of his biggest fans… We can’t condemn him because of what happened. We hope he learns from this,” Jermaine Jackson told The Daily Express.

This prompts me to say that this is the beginning of a much anticipated comeback from Chris Brown. It is clear that Chris Brown is overwhelmed by the series of unfortunate events after the Rihanna beat down. He lost many of his fans as his popularity plummet, while critics blast him every move.

I hope he will carry on this momentum into his performance at Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, Jamaica on July 23rd. We love our Caribbean native Rihanna and we do not condone what Chris Brown did, but we believe he deserves a second chance.
